Acupressure

1. Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine with the broad theory that all life has yin and yang the two parts that must be in balance.  Yin organs are for storage and yang are for elimination.

They teach that we have within our bodies is a life energy know as chi. Chi provides us protection from illness.  It is a mix of inherited energy passed to children at conception, and energy derived from the food and air that sustain our life. They believe as long as the chi is flowing through the meridians, you are in good health. Disease occurs when this is interrupted.

In diagnosing the ailment, the Chinese Doctor listens to the patient breathing, coughing and voice, he smells the body for any pungent or foul odors that can indicate illness. He may study the patient's tongue, and will also study the patient spirit, complexion and overall appearance, Indeed they believe they can detect almost 30 different qualities in your pulse.

Acupressure specialists work with acupoints on the body. He diagnoses where and how the flow of chi has stopped then puts pressure on the appropriate acupoints to remove the blockage of the energy channel thus restoring the body to balance and restores health

Qigong

Qigong (chee-guhng) literally means energy work. Qigong consists of meditation, breathing exercises and gentle repetitive movements Ti Chai and other Chinese martial arts are based on these same principles except they get progressively more active and assertive. While Qigong exercises are slow rhythmic movements of parts of the body while sitting or standing.  These movements can be done from wheelchairs or a bed making this an exercise people can literally do their whole life.

Practitioners of Qigong focus on their beathing while doing their exercise movements and visualize the energy flowing smoothly through their bodies, or accumulating in areas that may be depleted.  It is practiced in two vey diffeent ways:

Internal- this involves balancing and manipulating the flow of energy within oneself.

External- is a skill only for the masters, the masters are said to be able to direct energy externally to heal people or move objects without touching them..Skeptics often claim these are tricks involving slight of hand or real magical powers.
